I recently had the opportunity to exclusively interview Will Matthews about five random facts about himself, what are her goals she hopes to achieve this year. Plus learning an interesting fact about Will Matthews . Check out my interview with Will below:
Loryn: What have you've learned about yourself during this pandemic?
Will: I have learned the importance of channeling my tenacity and discipline. I wrote a book, picked up painting and did several DIY projects with the help of The University of YouTube. If you didn’t come out of this pandemic with a new skill, undiscovered talent or a clean garage/basement; time wasn’t your problem, discipline was.
Loryn: What advice do you have for people who work in a corporate environment during the pandemic?
Will: My advice would be to set boundaries. Since most are working from home or remote, work hours and boundaries have gone out the window. Remember to take a lunch hour and unplug/disconnect at your normal time. It’s tempting to open the laptop, email or respond to that 6:30 p.m. voicemail, but your mental space needs work-life-balance during this pandemic. I’ve discovered that taking a walk down the street or a mid-day nap recharges my creative juices.
Loryn: What do you believe is the biggest misconception about working in a corporate environment?
Will: There are so many misconceptions about working in a corporate environment. The first two that come to mind is that your coworkers are your extended family and everyone enjoys working together. False. I can’t tell you how many times the sound of a co-workers voice made my skin crawl. I’m not saying this to be harsh, but we are here for 8-10 hours to get work done - not become best friends. Another misconception is you have to be formally educated. My cousin and I were just talking about this subject, and we both agree the only education you need is how the system works.
Loryn: If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
Will: Do I have to choose just one? Ugh, this is a tough one. Oprah Winfrey. I embody her brilliant professional empire and philanthropic mindset.
Loryn: What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
Will: Because of my fancy handwriting, I moonlight as a calligrapher. Everyone calls on my penmanship to write their love letters, address wedding invitations, and thank you cards. My friends jokingly call my handwriting “The Will Font.”
